Testing new mini, Acer Aspire One

I have been looking at getting a new laptop for a while now. I started out looking at saving enough money for getting a newer more powerful notebook. Something with a lot larger display resolution. At this time several notebook manufactures started putting out net book and mini laptops. I noticed that these laptops have every bit as much power as the one I am currently using, with a lot lower price. I looked at the best one to get which would have been a Lenova thinkpad. At $700.00 or there about It would be a while for me to save that much. Then Acer, a very good laptop manufacturer put out the Acer Aspire One. Several models are starting to come out some with actual hard drives and some with SSD, solid state drives. Solid state drives are suppose to be much faster, since they have no moving parts. Walmart had the Acer One, with the 120GB hard drive. Since my wife works there I get a 10% discount and the fact that Walmart put a price of $348.99 on the mini Acer Aspire One, that means I paid only $300.00(approx.). So saving up for this didn't take very long. I'm still proud of myself for being able to save up over $300.00 and not spend it on food eating out everyday.

Now for the good the bad and the ugly of my new mini laptop. Overall I think this was the best buy. Since it has 120GB of hard drive space it now currently has Apache, MySQL,PHP5 running on it and seems to be faster than my current laptop. And being the fact that it is only running windows XP and not Linux, all tho 120Gb hard drive space is accessible for the windows system instead of splitting the hard drive and dual booting into Linux. Eventually I'm going to install Linux on a usb stick, once I get one that has about 4GB on it, and use that on the mini.

Now Lizzie wants one of these laptops. She thinks it is real cute. Actually it would be good for James and Lizzie to get laptops for school. Walmart sells the SSD Acer One with 8GB drives for $326.99 online. When we save up some more money we should get James and Lizzie one for school.
