Gentoo for Work
Finally got a upgrade at work recently and they built my machine from scratch. The new machine has a Quad Core now and 16 GB of memory. I have been running only linux distros on my work machines since I started working there since 2000. I finally decided to try something different than Ubuntu. Don't get me wrong, Ubuntu's nice and all. But I needed something that could give me everything this new computer can muster. What a better way to make sure your machine can run every program at the fastest but to compile everything. So thus begins my journey into Gentoo. I started out by trying to install it on Virtualboxes.
Then when my machine was built I took the time to get it all setup. The main issue with the install was setting up the xserver and getting it to work with two displays. The next biggest one to get settled is to keep everything up to date and redo the kernels. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with the new machine and the speed which it has. Vim never worked so fast.
